Despite losing in the semi-finals of the U.S.Open,Sharapova rose to the No. 1 ranking again on September 12, 2005.

Sharapova kept the No. 1 ranking for six weeks before letting go again to Davenport following the 2005 Zurich Open. In 2006 she claimed her second title as the second seed at the Acura Classic in San Diego, defeating top-seeded Kim Clijsters.

Sharapova ended the year 2007, as number 5 on the official WTA tour rankings, her fourth year in a row with a top 5 finish.
